General Information

Kemerovo Institute of Food Science and Technology (KemIFS&T) was founded in 1972.
Now it is a multi-field educational complex providing a high quality training in a number of technical, technological, economic and management disciplines.
The Institute has
7 divisions , 33 departments, 3 baccalaureate directions and 2 postgraduate (master) directions. Many highly qualified teachers and professors form the faculty of the Institute. The teaching faculty is 450 people, about 63% of which have scientific degrees and titles.
The Institute is the leading center to train engineers for the enterprises of food industry and a number of other branches of processing industries and agriculture in Siberia, Far East, Ural and CIS countries.

Science & Research

The intensive scientific work has been carried out at the Institute from the very beginning of its existence. For this purpose there were serious prerequisites: a lot of teachers were invited to work in KemIFS&T from central regions of Russian Federation.
In accordance with the Institute profile the main part of scientific and research projects focuses on the food industry field. At the same time certain scientific work is being done with the problems of allied scientific fields. One of them is the environmental protection. Scientific developments of our Institute are widely applied in industry and agriculture.
In 1985 the research laboratory on the problems solving was set up at the Institute. On its basis the Research institute of biotechnology and certification of food raw materials and food products was formed in 1994.
This research institute has been working in close cooperation with the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (in Moscow).
The students take an active part in the realization of the main scientific trends conducted by the Institute. Students’ research projects allow to continue their investigations in a certain direction on the basis of postgraduate courses.
The training of postgraduates is carried out according to 16 directions. The Institute has two dissertation councils to award doctor’s and candidate’s degrees in the fields of food product processing technologies, food engineering, and food quality certification.

Leading scientific trends

  • Scientific and practical foundation of the development of continuous mixing aggregates of centrifugal and vibratory types to obtain dry/powder, dewy and liquid combined products.
  • Application of the fermentative protein hydrolysis in the manufacture of food products.
  • Development and Research of the technology of bio-catalytic processes: casein modification, vegetative raw materials, eatable & safe polymers in the manufacture of medicines for various purposes.
  • Research and development of technologies of functional products for children and pregnant women and feeding mothers with diseases of phenylketonuria.
  • Development and implementation of modern technological methods in the manufacture of milk and dairy products.
  • Monitoring of health and food products of functional purpose.
  • Development of modern and highly effective technologies in baking soda preparation and sewage cleaning.
  • Synthesis and physical and chemical analysis in the stochastic dynamics.
  • Development of mathematical models, algorithms and technologies of hygienically safe foods on the basis of monitoring the forming quality facts.
  • Research of the fast-rate freezing technology for food and raw materials with the purpose of keeping their consumer properties and increasing their shelf-life.

Cooperation

Since 1990 the Institute personnel has been working in a close contact with academic and research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences including the Institute of Nutrition of the Siberian Division of ASRF and the Academy of Technological sciences of Russian Federation. At the same time the Kuzbass regional center of the Academy of Technological Sciences was formed on the basis of KemIFS&T.
Scientific researches are also carried out in close cooperation with the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and many other social academies. The Institute personnel takes part in various international, federal, and regional programs on different problems of our national economy. Most researches of our scientists are focused on actual problems of food processing industries.
KemIFS&T is a co-founder of the kuzbass Regional Innovation and Technological Center which was established to accelerate the development and realization of effective innovations in public catering and food branches of the region.
International links of the Institute are developed too. Our scientists and researchers  work at actual scientific problems together with the specialists from the former Soviet Republics and foreign countries. At present they are conducting investigations in “The theoretical research of elementary interactions in chemical processes” within the international grant at the Institute of Molecular Physics in Berlin (Germany) and Israel University in Jerusalem.
